Dashito Chapter 1

Introduction

In a small Japanese village, a group of men rushed to an isolated hut. But as they arrived at the front door, the group stopped suddenly, and looked at each other with excitement, because tonight was the annual Freedom Festival and on the other side of this door, a special guest awaited. This was the fifth Freedom Festival, and every year the same guest made an appearance and told the story of remembrance. The lead man stepped up and banged frantically, as the rest of the group stood back to wait for the door to open.

Story teller- Who is it?
Trevor- Story teller, it’s the village council. We have come to escort you to the stage.
Story teller- We do this every year! I know where the stage is! I am not even supposed to go on for another hour, and the stage is only a ten minute walk from here! Come back in 45 minutes!
I am painting right now!
Trevor- I am sorry to disturb you so early Story teller, but we have to follow protocol. Oh my, is this another painting of your home? It’s beautiful.
Story teller- Thank you for the compliment. (Pause) I used to follow protocol and look at what it got me. This stump I have for a leg now, has taught me to slow down and enjoy life more, literally. So, you can stick your protocol where the sun doesn’t shine!
Trevor- You know if I don’t come back with you, the wise one will have my head, literally. So please, don’t make such a fuss.
Who is that woman in the painting? She is beautiful.
Story teller- Thank you again. She was somebody I knew a long time ago, before I was stranded in this God forsaken place.
Trevor- Was she your wife?
Storyteller- Yes, but we lost touch after I was transferred here.
I miss this part of my life dearly, but I know I can never go back to it. I think this is the reason why I took up painting, to remember. Anyway, I better get cleaned up so we can go. I don’t want to get you into trouble.
Trevor- Thank you, I appreciate that. The wise one has been in a fowl mood today. So, I don’t want to get on her bad side. The last time I managed to anger her, she lectured me for three hours and then made me walk that stupid dog of hers.
Story teller- What did you do to make her so angry?
Trevor- A made a comment about why we had to make a dinner setting for that flea bag of hers to one of the council members, and it somehow got back to her.
Story teller- For someone so wise, she is very peculiar about that dog.
Trevor- Yes, I have wondered that myself, and I had found out why in that three hour lecture. She told me that this dog was given to her by her father, so in her eyes; this makes the dog apart of her family. And you of all people know how she loves to keep the past alive.
Story teller- That I do, but I live in the past myself, so I would be a hypocrite to fault her for it. That is interesting about her dog though. You would think that I of all people would know the history on that mutt. But anyway, we should get going, if you don’t want to take that miserable creature for a walk again.
Trevor- Good idea. My men will help you as usual. We had prepared you tea and a little something to eat before your performance.
Story teller- Fantastic! I am famished. Could you please prepare some extra tea for the stage? I always get a bit thirsty about half through the story.
Trevor- We have plenty of tea for you. Don’t you worry. I do have to admit, I am looking forward towards your story. I know I was there and I have heard this story a million times, but the way you sell it to the audience is amazing. You are a very talented speaker.
Story Teller- Stop it, please. All of this praising is making me blush.
But I am happy that you enjoy my story. Thank you, again. Now, enough talking, we should go.
Trevor- You are right, we should go. There will be plenty of time to talk after the show. Alright everybody, let’s head on back before we are any later than we are now.

The group of men and the Story teller made there way to the middle of the village, where the night’s festivities would be held. Groups of villagers greeted the Story teller as he made his way towards the stage. The group entered a small tent, where tea and sandwiches awaited the night’s entertainment.
The Story teller sat and waited, while inhaling half a sandwich in one bite. Suddenly, a small dog ran through the tents opening and began to yap at everything is saw, for example, the chair, the table, and then towards the Story teller. The Story teller rolled his eyes and finished his sandwich. Right then, a young girl entered the tent.

Story teller- Wise one! It is a pleasure to see you! How is every thing?
Wise one- Hello, Story teller. I am sorry but I am not in a very good mood today, so I don’t feel like talking.
Story teller- What’s wrong little one?
Wise one- I miss my dad. And today out of all days makes me miss him more. I wish I could see him again. Do you think things will change and he will be able to come home?
Story teller- That I do not know, but one thing I do know is that your father is a great man, and a lot of people respect him. And he had laid his knowledge upon you, in which, makes you the wise one. That is why we are celebrating today, but I don’t need to tell you things you already know.
Ouch! Get off me you filthy beast!
Wise one- Don’t hurt my dog! He is the only family I have got!
Story teller- Now that is where you are wrong. We are your family.
We all think of you as our own daughter. Everyone loves you here.
Wise one- Then why do the other children treat me like a freak?
I just want to be a normal girl, with normal parents. But, my mother was taken away, and my father has led this crazy crusade to save the world! And I am stuck here by myself, expected to follow in his foot steps. And on top of that, I have been given a nick name that I don’t even like!
Story teller- That name was given to you by your father. And this name that you are appalled of has kept you alive.
Wise one- I know but…
Story teller- Don’t worry about the other children because they are too young to understand your importance. And I am sorry about your parents not being here, but fate has chosen that, so there is nothing we can do but hope for something to change. But just remember the sacrifice your father paid for all of us. You should be very proud of him.
Wise one- I know, I am proud of him. I just miss him, and my mother, that’s all. By the way, I was wondering. When you had spent time with my father, did he ever tell you why he called me wise one?
Storyteller- As a matter of fact he did. Apparently, when you were a baby, your eyes were abnormally large. He told me that you resembled an owl.
So, he nick named you wise one.
Wise one- Really? I thought the reason why every one called me this was because I was smart.
Story teller- Oh, you are smart but that’s not the only reason why you were given your name. You just looked like an owl. Are you upset?
Wise one- No I am okay. I am just a little surprised, that’s all. I learn a little bit about my past every day. One day, I think I am admired because of my intelligence and then the next day I find out I look like a bird.
Story teller- Don’t be too hard on your self. Everything has a way of working out in the end. Your father had taught me that. But, I must get ready now.
I think I only have a few minutes before show time. Oh, before I leave you, I was told you have been giving the local council a hard time. Is this true?
Wise one- If you are talking about my dogs’ right to eat at the dinner table, yes it’s true. Where ever I go, my dog goes. Why, is there a problem?
Story teller- No, I just thought it was an amusing story. You really do take after your fathers’ side with your stubbornness. Anyway, I must get going. Will you watch the performance?
Wise one- Of course I will. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Oh, and Story teller, thanks for talking with me. I feel better now.
Story teller- It was my honor little one. We will talk again after the show.
See you later.
Wise one- See you later, and good luck!

The villagers gathered around the stage and waited for the performance to begin.
A small murmur of talking had traveled back and forth through out the crowd, as the audience spoke amongst themselves. Suddenly, Trevor made his way on to the stage, and the audience went silent with anticipation. Trevor gave a short speech and introduced the Story teller. The audience stood and applauded as the Story teller was helped on to the stage. The Story teller sat down in the middle of the stage and waved to the cheering crowd. And the story began.

Chapter 1
“The Beginning”

Patrick- Takashi! Takaaaaashi!
Takashi- Whaaat!
Patrick- Have you caught anything?
Takashi- No, nothing yet. This place sucks for fishing!
Patrick- Tell me about it. I have been here three times and have never caught anything. Come to think of it, I don’t think I have even gotten a nibble.
Takashi- Thanks for telling me this now. Why did you bring me down here anyway? I could be still sleeping in my bed right now.
Patrick- I needed the “dude” time. I spend too much time with my wife and daughter. Don’t get me wrong, I love them and all, I just needed to get away for awhile and do something “MANLY”.
Takashi- Like drag me down to a fishless river, at the crack of dawn?
Patrick- Yea, something like that. Plus, I wanted to talk to you about the take over. I heard that Tokyo will be hit next.
Takashi- Yea, the world is a crazy place right now, but I wouldn’t worry about it. We live in the middle of no where. What would the aliens want with a little town like ours? I would be surprised if they could even find the place.
Patrick- Yea, you are probably right. I am just worried about Mao and Mally. I read in the paper the other day that the aliens use the women for some type of breeding experiment. I know that there is a slim chance that these motherfuckers would show up at my front door, but I think we should start thinking about it any way. You know, what if they do come? Have you ever seen the size of these things? They are fucking huge!
Takashi- Dude, I am only five two. Every one is huge to me. But I know what you’re saying. We should be more prepared, but what could we actually do?
We wouldn’t stand a chance, if we tried to fight them. All I am saying is that
We should appreciate that they only focus on the big cities. And on top of that, even if one of those things did pay me a visit, I don’t think they would even take me any way!
Patrick- Why is that?
Takashi- Because I am only five two! What good am I at one of their working camps? I am too small and weak. But you on the other hand should be worried. I heard that they love big American guys like your self, especially the ones that like to drag their friends out of bed to fishless rivers.
Oh, and they would really love Mao as well, with her ability to have such huge babies. By the way, how is your gigantic daughter anyway?
Patrick- Very funny, dick head! And for that comment, I am not sharing my coffee with you, or my donuts.
Takashi- You brought donuts and coffee?
Patrick- I sure did. And it’s all mine. Buwahahaha!
Takashi- Oh come on, don’t be such a pussy! I was just kidding.
You do spend too much time with your wife and kid! I thought you wanted “dude” time?
Patrick- Oh I do and I also want to eat this extra donut. But, since I am such a good friend, unlike yourself, I will give it to you. Here friend.
Takashi- You asshole! You didn’t have to throw it at me! You wasted a perfectly good donut! What’s wrong with you?
Patrick- I am just trying to spend my last precious hours as a free man, before my family and I are dragged off to one of those camps.
Oh wait, hold on. I think I got a bite.
Takashi- Really?
Patrick- Yea, I got this bastard! I told you this place wasn’t that bad. Come on, you son of a bitch.
Takashi- Oh, I see it. Pull it out of the water before it gets away!
Patrick- Thanks for the tip Grand Master of Fishing.
Takashi- I am just trying to help, ass.
Patrick- Well, if you want to help me, grab my net.
Takashi- Okay, where is it?
Patrick- It’s next to the peanut butter jar.
Takashi- Why did you bring peanut butter?
Patrick- I use it for bait. I used to buy bait at the store, but I would never catch anything.
Takashi- So, how and why did you start using peanut butter?
Patrick- I was fishing in California a few years back, and I had packed a lunch, which happened to be a couple of peanut butter sandwiches. Well, like I said, I wasn’t having any luck with my bait, so on a whim, I used one of my sandwiches.
Takashi- Did you catch anything?
Patrick- Sure did, I caught five decent sized trout that day. Oh, here we go.
Wow, he’s kind of small. I think I will throw him back.
Takashi- Well, at least you caught something. I am still amazed with your bait though. I would have never thought of that.
Patrick- Well, it’s just called, “Thinking outside the box” my friend.
Takashi- I guess so. Anyways, how long are we going to stay here?
I am getting kind of hungry. And since you threw my breakfast at me, I have nothing to eat here but peanut butter and your puny fish.
Patrick- Yea, you still have a little chocolate over your right eyebrow.
Yea, let’s get out of here. I told Mao that I would be home before eleven.
So long little fishy. Oh hold on, wait a minute. I should take a picture of my fish before I throw him back in the water. Mao is always giving me shit for coming down here and never catching anything. But, today I will have the last laugh. Okay fishy, say cheese. Okay, now you can swim to your freedom. Swim little fishy, swim!!
Takashi- Are you finished?
Patrick- Yes, I am finished. Now we can go.
Come on, let’s go. I will buy you some MacDonald’s.
Takashi- Great! I am starving.

Patrick and Takashi packed up there fishing gear and headed out, while the little fish jumped out of the water celebrating its freedom. These two had been friends for a couple of years now, and by the looks of it, will probably remain friends for several more. Even though, these two had grown up in different cultures, they still understood each other, as if they were brothers. Originally, their friendship was bonded by playing music with each other but eventually grew to a deeper level.
After breakfast, the two had departed their separate ways. Patrick went back home to his wife and daughter and Takashi to his home he had still shared with his aging parents. These two would often make fun of each others life, but secretly admired each others living arrangements, but jealousy was never an issue.
Patrick had lived in Japan for three years now, and as much as he had a hard time adapting to such a different culture than his own, he made do and never complained. Patience was a great strength he had within himself. And he knew that as stressed out and home sick as he was, things would eventually improve. Takashi on the other hand wasn’t ready to wait any longer for his life to improve. He was ready to leave Japan and his parents, and live in America again.
But unfortunately, a lack of money hindered this desire to escape.

Patrick- I’m hoooooooome!
Mao- SSSsshh! She just fell asleep and you woke her up again!
Patrick- Oh, sorry. Do you want me to hold her?
Mao- Please, she has been crying for the past hour now. I love you Mally but sometimes you drive me crazy.
Patrick- It’s because she misses her daddy. Give her to me; I will put her to sleep. Why do I hear a duck quaking in the bathroom?
Mao- Oh that’s her new toy. It’s been driving me crazy for the last couple of hours. Here Mally, go to daddy. (Hands Mally to Patrick) I sometimes think she just loves my booby, and when it goes dry, she has no use for me.
Mally, don’t you love your mommy?
See, she won’t even look at me. I’m so sad. Mally, mommy needs attention.
Patrick- Do you want to know the secret with getting kids attention?
Mao- Sure, what’s the secret?
Patrick- You have to ignore them, and they will eventually come over to see what you are doing.
Mao- I could never ignore Mally. My baby is soooo cute. Ugh oh, I smell something. I think I can ignore her now.
Patrick- Why is that?
Mao- I think she pooed her pants. You better change her. I am going to go check my email. And after you’re done changing her, can you silence that duck? It’s really starting to annoy me.
Patrick- No problem, I shall terminate Mr. Ducky. (Turns to Mally) I guess it’s just you and me Mally. Your momma doesn’t want to take care of you anymore. But don’t worry, I will clean you up.
Mao- Don’t say that! You make it sound like I don’t like her. I love my Mally, and I take care of her every night, while you are snoring in bed.
Patrick- That’s right you do, and you do a fine job at it, but I have a small request. Can you keep the singing down at 3 in the morning? It disturbs my beauty sleep, and top of that, my sex dream with Halle Berry. I can’t get my groove on with Halle, when in the background your singing itsy bitsy spider!
It breaks my concentration.
Mao- No, I will sing as loud as Mally wants. She likes it. And I am glad I am ruining your relationship with Halle Berry. You shouldn’t be dreaming about her anyway! You should be dreaming about me! Ugh, Mally, your father is so selfish. He doesn’t love me anymore. But, you love me and my singing don’t you? Oh, how was your fishing trip? Did you come back empty handed as usual?
Patrick- No, I actually caught a fish this time!
Mao- OK, whatever. Mally your father is not only selfish but he is a liar as well.
Patrick- No, I did! I swear! I even took a picture of it because I knew you wouldn’t believe me. Here take a look.
Mao- Congratulations! Oh, Mally, your father finally caught a fish!
A teeny weenie little fish. And do you know what? He can give is little fish to Halle Berry, because I don’t want it anymore. What did you do with your little fish any how? Did you eat it or give it to Takashi?
Patrick- I know. You haven’t wanted it for some time now. It’s like we have turned into an eighty year old couple ever since Mally was born? Anyway, I did neither. I threw it back and went to MacDonald’s instead. (Walks to bathroom and picks up the duck) How do you turn this thing off?
Mao- You already ate? I had made you lunch. I wish you would have told me that you were going to get Macdonald’s. Oh, and to answer your question, it’s only supposed to turn on when it gets wet, and turn off after you dry it off.
Patrick- It looks dry to me. I don’t understand this thing. Shut up you stupid duck! (Pause) Oh, and don’t worry, I can still eat. What did you make?
Mao- Something healthy with a lot of vegetables. (Goes to bathroom) Don’t break Mally’s’ toy! Stop hitting it! That stupid thing was expensive!
Patrick- Oh really? Well, I don’t care how much it cost, because this evil little thing is driving me crazy! Oh, I give up. Alright duck, you won this battle but for the time being your new home will be inside this cupboard, all the way in the back. (Turns to Mao) On second thought I think I will pass on lunch, I lost my appetite.
Mao- No, we will both eat lunch together. You need to eat more vegetables! You’re getting fat again!
Patrick- Sorry, mommy.
Mao- I am not your mommy! I’m Mally’s mommy. Now, go wash your hands and get ready to eat.
Patrick- Jesus, I knew I should have stayed longer at the river.
Mao- What was that!
Patrick- Nothing mommy.
Mao- Stop calling me that and hurry up! And while you’re at it, throw some towels on top of that stupid duck because I can still hear it!
Patrick- How about I just introduce it to this hammer?
Mao- Don’t waste your time because I had already tried.

This was a typical conversation between this couple. They would tease each other everyday, and never get tired of it. Their friends would sometimes get confused when they came over and visited this household, by wondering if these two were serious or just a little crazy, but as much sarcasm that had flowed through this tiny apartment in Japan, Patrick and Mao loved each other very much. And when little Mally came aboard, their bond had deepened even more.
After Patrick cleaned himself up, he sat down with Mao, whom was already eating lunch. They ate and played with Mally, and talked about their daily schedule. After lunch, the three went for their daily walk through out their neighborhood. This was their life, and as the hard times came and went, these two carried on with their heads held high. They were not rich nor were they poor. They both had a good head on each others shoulders, but still were a little lost when it came to life’s choices. They were both well liked and intelligent people, but unfortunately had no idea in why they were put down on this earth. These two were traveling together down the highway of life, searching for each others purpose.

Patrick- Jesus, I think Mally is getting heavier everyday.
Mao- I think you are just getting weaker everyday.
Patrick- That’s probably true, since you have a habit of giving me the smaller piece of the yakimo. Give me some more sweet potato women!!
Mao- Forget about it, it’s all mine! Ha ha ha, Mally, your mama is evil!!
Patrick- Uugh, I don’t want to work tomorrow. Have you spoken to Manami yet, to see if she can baby sit?
Mao- Yea, she told me that you can drop her off around 730. I have to go to Yokohama tomorrow, so I will have to take the first train.
Patrick- What time do you have be at work?
Mao- 9 o’clock.
Patrick- Ouch! Anyway, I wish your work would keep you away from the city. You know, for what’s going on and all. I heard that Tokyo was expected to be hit next. You should stay closer to home.
Mao- I know, but its good money and unfortunately my company decides where I have to go. Uugh, I wish you hadn’t told me that. Now I am worried. Well, at least I don’t have to go into Tokyo.
Patrick- Yea, well Yokohama is right next door. I am sure we would know by now, if an invasion was going to hit Japan tomorrow morning, but on the safe side, I think you should call in sick or something.
Mao- I wish I could. Believe me, I would rather stay here with you and Mally than sit on the train for three hours, and risk the chance of being captured by aliens, but we really need the money right now. You know there are no jobs around here, and we can’t survive off your job alone. (Pause) Hmm, I never would have expected to have ever said that.
Patrick- What, about not being able to find work around here?
Mao- No! About being captured by aliens! Oh Mally, your father never listens to me.
Patrick- I was listening. I was just wondering how crazy times are now.
I guess I am a little overwhelmed, that’s all.
Mao- Well yea, I think everybody is a little overwhelmed right now!
But anyway, let’s talk about something different. This conversation is depressing. Have you studied your Japanese today?
Patrick- Uugh, I was planning to, as soon as we got home.
Mao- Oh Mally, your father is lazy too, and that’s the reason why we are poooor.
Patrick- Very funny.

But as expected, an invasion was being prepared for the following day, but not only Tokyo, but the surrounding areas as well. The plan was to seal off the freeways and railways, to eliminate any possibility of any escape, and then round up the inhabitants for selection.
This craziness had begun about a year prior too little Mally’s birth. The Neaitans made there first appearance in America, by taking over virtually everything from the U.S. government to everything that is all media. And eventually, began to spread across the globe to all of the major cities. There was never any mother ship breaking the skyline, for a grand display of power from the heavens above, nor were there any green men with laser guns zapping the locals. They just suddenly appeared one day with the so called powers that be that control the White house, and told the public that they were now in charge.
At first, the general public had a difficult time comprehending who these individuals actually were. They looked human, plus they were able to communicate openly over the airwaves in any language necessary. The only difference between the common man and your average Neaitan was that your average Neaitan excelled physically and mentally. They were extremely intelligent and had the physic of a professional athlete. And oddly enough, they all seemed to be on an equal level of intelligence, strength, and personality. Like for example, if there was some Neaitan cookie cutter in the midst of our galaxy somewhere, pushing one out after another.
And like I said before, it took a while for the public to realize that the Neaitans were different. Your average Joe with his below average attention span just thought they were European. Because they weren’t exactly white nor were they any other race you could pin down. It’s like they were thrown into a blender, and came out light years above today’s mankind, but they weren’t perfect. With this superiority over mankind, there came a price. They were extremely boring.
Let me put it to you this way, watching paint dry was more entertaining than having a conversation with a Neaitan. Even when, your average conversation with one of these individuals, was when they were throwing you in the back of one of their cattle cars, that was being shipped off to one of their so called, work camps, their monotone voices alone would take the fight out of you.
The Neaitans were extremely disciplined to following protocol as well. Everything had to be planned, and to stray off course was unheard of.
And I have personal knowledge that that they actually had a book that they would follow verbatim. Apparently, this book had the answer to every possibility you could think of, when regarding the human race. And this is how they took over the planet. They already knew everything that our so called leaders would do to avoid an attack. And of course, our elected officials had played right into there hands.
But before any of this insanity had actually started, conspiracy theorists had warned the general public that our governments were already making deals with aliens for state of the art technology, but unfortunately these warnings had fell upon deaf ears. The general public had no time to waste by listening to crack pots with aluminum hats, when there were to busy voting for the next pop king or queen to rule the music charts for the next month.
But the funny thing was that these crack pots were right on the money.
Our governments had been making deals with aliens. And it wasn’t for the benefit of mankind either, even though, that is what they would preach from their podiums in various languages across the globe. The reason was simply greed. And this is what the Neaitans used to close the sale.
The Neaitans original offer was to share alien technology with our militaries, for the exchange of human wombs. This alien civilizations female population and been infected by some unknown worldly virus, in which had slowed the Neaitan birth to almost a full stop. And so, the Neaitans had mastered the art of artificial reproduction, but unfortunately still needed a womb for their race to survive.
But the Neaitans didn’t hold up to their side of the bargain entirely. The original deal was for two hundred female humans a year, but the success with the breeding was so great, they had decided that they would take as many as they wanted, and that is exactly what they did.
Our leaders obviously objected at first, but when they found out that their death was the alternative, their attitudes quickly changed. They would joke with each other at one of their hidden retreat elitist parties by saying, “Hey, what are a few extra nobodies thrown into the pot, when it keeps me rich, and most importantly alive.” And from this attitude to Joe Six Pack’s apathetic nature, the rest of us were screwed sideways with a monotone whisper in our ear telling us, “Don’t worry baby, everything is going to be alright”.

Chapter 2

(Train Station intercom) Ladies and gentleman, please refrain from boarding the next oncoming train, because there will be a selection check for all arriving passengers. Please stay behind the yellow line until the selection check is completed. Thank you for your cooperation.

Mao- Why are we stopping?
Passenger- I don’t know. Are they checking ID’s today?
Mao- I heard they might be in Tokyo, but we are still two hours away.
Why would they come all the way out here?
Passenger- Yea, that’s true. Their check points are only in the city.
Maybe, there was an accident or something.
Mao- Yea, maybe another salary man was having a bad day.
Oh, okay, here we go. We are moving again. That scared me a little bit.
Passenger- Yea, me too. Ever since my friends daughter was taken away.
I have been afraid to travel into the city.
Mao- I know. My husband and I were just talking about this yesterday.
I should have listened to him, but we really do need the money now.
Passenger- Do you have any children?
Mao- Yes, we have a daughter.
Passenger- Oh really? Is a boy or a girl?
Mao- A girl, her name is Mally.
Passenger- She sounds adorable. Oh, I have always wanted a little girl. But now, I am too old to have children. I guess I missed my chance. What’s her name? How old is she? Come on, tell me everything about her. (Pause) Oh no, we are slowing down again. I am going to be late for work if this keeps happening.
(Train Intercom)
Ladies and gentlemen, please be advised that we will be having a mandatory selection check at the next approaching station. Please have your ID’s ready for inspection. Thank you for your cooperation.

Landor- Colonel Sandry, I appreciate that your men have arrived on a timely matter, and that you are assisting us in today’s selection check.
Colonel Sandry- Well, it’s not like we had much of a choice in the matter, Mr. Landor.
Landor- Oh please, your human formalities are not needed with me. Please, just call me Landor.
Colonel Sandry- Oh, I can think of a few other things I can call you as well.
Landor- No that is not needed. Just simply call me Landor.
Colonel Sandry- Yea, ok, whatever. So, Landor, what exactly do you want me and my men to do today?
Landor- That is an excellent question and the answer is this. You and your men will be assisting me in gathering specimens for our lab.
Colonel Sandry- And when you say specimens, you actually mean innocent people that meet your qualifications?
Landor- Yes, that is exactly what I mean Colonel Sandry, and I want you to remember that I am in charge of you and your men, so I would advise you to follow my orders, verbatim.
Colonel Sandry- Hey, like I said before, I have no choice in this matter.
Landor- Excellent answer, Colonel Sandry. Now, we must get ready for our approaching train. It should be arriving in the next five minutes or so.
But until then, please have your men keep these people behind the yellow line. I want this to go as smooth as possible. I will not tolerate any foul ups.
Is that understood, Colonel Sandry?
Colonel Sandry- Don’t worry about me and my men. We are seasoned professionals. There won’t be any problems. (Asshole)

And as the train approached with bewildered passengers peering out of the windows, the Neaitans and the U.S. military took control of this tiny train station. Colonel Sandry had been ordered by his commander and chief to assist with the inspection points through out the Japanese region, and like all of the other high ranking personal, he followed these orders with gritted teeth because he cared about his mens welfare.
The Neaitans had threatened to destroy any military that stood in their way, and they had the means to do it, at least this is what our worldly leaders believed anyway, so this worlds military men were ordered to stand down and assist or be charged with treason and even possibly death.
But Colonel Sandry had been a time bomb ever since this had begun. He was a die hard patriotic and had followed orders his entire life without question, but this was too much for him. Every time he had to listen to one of these bastards talk down to him, his right hand would slowly move closer to his 45 that was holstered to his side, especially when douchbags like this Landor character would sneer at him every time their eyes met. Colonel Sandry could imagine opening up the back of Landors head with a three round burst. But then he thought about the men he was in charge of and their families, and so with this, he controlled his anger.
Landor could feel the hate from Colonel Sandry as well, but didn’t care in the least. He understood why he was disliked but his opinion of the human race was so low, it was like comparing a seasoned fishermen’s guilt for the umpteenth fish he had just sliced and diced. Landor had a job to do on this miserable little planet and the daggers that were shot at him on a daily basis would not slow him down. Not even an old war horse like Colonel Sandry and his itchy trigger finger would get in the way of repopulating this world with
Landors alien race. And at this point, Mao was staring blankly at the back of the seat in front of her, wondering to her self, “How could I have been so stupid?”

Patrick- Ok Mally, I want you to behave your self today at Manami’s. I don’t want to hear about you smoking cigarettes or breaking into her liquor cabinet again. Do you understand me? OK, here we are, hold on a second baby girl.
(Knock Knock Knock)
Manami- Ohaiyo gouzaimasu! Patrick-san! Ohaiyo Mally-chan! Genki desuka?
Patrick- Ohaiyo gouzaimasu! Watashitachi wa genki desu.
Manami- Oh, your Japanese is improving! Is Mao making you study more?
Patrick- Yea, she is always on my case about it. I know I should study more, but to be honest with you, I am kind of lazy when it comes to studying.
Manami- I already know this Patrick san. Your wife tells me this every time we talk on the phone. I think she wants you to be Japanese. Anyway, how is little Mally-chan today? Oh, she is so cute.
Patrick- She has been good today, so far anyway. I should be back around 430 to pick her up. Is that okay?
Manami- Yea, that is fine. Just call before you come over, so I can get her ready. Oh, come here little Mally. Oh, you are so cute! She has the cutest eyes! There huge!
Patrick- I know. She kind of looks like an owl, right? That’s why I call her my little wise one. Oh, and don’t worry. I already warned her about not stealing your cigarettes and booze again. So, everything should be okay. See you later!
Bye bye, Mally.
Manami- Oh Mally, your father is a very strange man. Bye bye, see you later.

(Patrick’s phone rings)

Patrick- Moshi moshi!
Takashi- Hey dude. Don’t worry about coming in to work today because the school is closed.
Patrick- Oh really, why what happened?
Takashi- I don’t know yet. The vice principal just called about ten minutes ago, but he was kind of vague. He said he would call back, when he knew more in what’s going on.
Patrick- So, do I have to work today?
Takashi- Well, for now, I guess not. But don’t get too comfortable because you know how unexpected work can pop up around here. I will keep you posted. But enough talk about work, are we practicing tomorrow night?
I finally have finished that song we were working on last time you were over.
Patrick- I would love to rock out, but I have to check with Mao first.
I don’t know if she is working tomorrow.
Takashi- (sarcastically) Oh, I have to ask my my wife first.
OK pussy, when you find out if you can come out and play tomorrow, please let me know as soon as you can.
Patrick- Why, do you have plans with your mommy to going shopping for a new dress?
Takashi- Hey, leave my mom out of this!
Patrick- Okay fine, so why are you in such a hurry for me to let you know?
Are you busy tomorrow?
Takashi- Well yea, sort of. I am supposed to go out for lunch.
Patrick- Oh yea, with whom?
Takashi- Well (Pause) my mom but…
Patrick- Yea, that’s what I thought fag! I will call you later, bye.
(Phone rings again)
Patrick- Jesus, What now? Moshi moshi…Hello?
Mao- (crying) Gomen. I should have listened to you.
Patrick- Mao? What’s wrong? Why are you crying?
Mao- They stopped the train outside of Tokyo, and then they started shooting at each other, and so I hid, and…
Patrick- Wait a minute! Slow down and tell me everything that happened!
Mao- Like I said, there was an inspection check today outside of Tokyo.
But then, one of the soldiers started to argue with one of, you know “Them”,
And they started fighting. Suddenly, every one started to shoot at each other.
Patrick, they killed every body, the soldiers, the passengers, everybody, and now they are looking for survivors. Oh my God, I am so scared. What should I do?
Patrick- Fuck! Um, oh shit. Hmm, let me think of something. Just stay calm.
Hello? Are you still there? Hello? Mao say something! Oh fuck!
Mao- There coming! Oh my God! (Crying) Patrick...
Patrick- Yes?
Mao- (Crying) I’m sorry. Protect Mally. (Click)
Patrick- Hello? Hello?
(Phone rings)
Patrick- Mao? Are you okay?
Takashi- Dude, calm down it’s me; you won’t believe what I just heard on the news.
Patrick- I know what’s going on and I need you to get to Manami’s as fast as you can alright?
Takashi- No problem, I will see you there.

And through out the bullet-ridden train, moans and groans could be heard from the dying. Landor was furious with his men for breaking protocol, by firing upon the passengers. The male passengers he could care less about because he had no use for them, but the female passengers would have filled his quota for the day, and without this quota being filled, Landers’s superiors would be furious as well. But one thing that did puzzle him was the aggressiveness of the humans here. This had never happened before but then this was the countryside. The Neaitans selection checkpoints were normally held in major metropolises through out the world but because of the depletion of specimens, the Neaitans were beginning to focus on the smaller communities. The one thing that had worried them though was that these areas hadn’t been sprayed yet, but they assumed through the use of fear and intimidation, their specimens would come quietly, but they were wrong.

Ten years prior to this invasion, the Neaitans had introduced a technology to all of the governments through out the world that would enable them to modify the world’s weather. The Neaitans knew that each government would want to master this for the sole purpose of becoming a world power, but they were actually simultaneously shooting each other in the foot. This technology was actually a toxin that would dumb down the earths inhabitants for an easy future attack. And just like fishing, the Neaitans wanted to only focus on the heavy populated areas until they were all “fish out”, and then eventually troll in the more seclude areas of the world. And because of the rapid success of over powering the human race, the Neaitans arrogance had become completely out of control, and this was the beginning of their demise.

Landor had stood motionless while observing the days turn of events, and as he gazed among the carnage of this train station, for some reason he still felt a little optimistic. He had decided to check out the train for the possibility of any female survivors, and then report back to his superiors with the unfortunate news. So, he and his men made their way one train car at a time with their fingers crossed that they could salvage this disaster.
Mao could hear them coming as well, as she hid in a fetal position behind a row of first class priority seating intended for corporate executives commuting to Yokohama. And as she laid there with her eyes closed she thought about her loved ones, her parents, Mally, Patrick.
And as a tear began to run down her right cheek, a hand grabbed her shoulder.

Mao- Oh my God! Please don’t hurt me!
Colonel Sandry- Ssssh! Be quiet, or they will hear us.
Mao- Who are you? What are we going to do? I need to get home!
Please help me!
Colonel Sandry- Maam, please calm down. My name is Colonel San...
I’m sorry. My name is John. I am an officer in the U.S. Army. I will help you, don’t worry. But please, you have to stay calm for me. Can you do that?
Mao- Yes, I can. I’m sorry but I am just a little scared right now, and come to think of it, I little angry at my self as well.
Colonel Sandry- Well, we all have our own little problems, don’t we?
Colonel Sandry- But for right now, we have to put our personal shit on the back burner, and focus on getting off this train in one piece. What’s your name any way?
Mao- Mao.
Colonel Sandry- Well Mao, if we want to survive this cluster fuck, it would behoove us to work as a team, so, I need to know if you have any experience with fire arms?
Mao- No, I don’t know anything about guns.
Colonel Sandry- Well today, your attitude will completely change. Meet your new friend Mao. His name is Berretta 9mm. Here take it!
Mao- But I don’t know..!
Colonel Sandry- Sssh. You need to relax Mao. Don’t worry it’s easy. All you do is pull this back and then point and shoot. You can do it Mao, I know you can. Now, stay behind me as close as you can.
Mao- Okay. Oh my God! Are you alright?
Colonel Sandry- No, I am not alright but I’m not dead yet, so just stay behind me and keep quiet. Oh shit! Get down!

Right then, an arsenal of bullets shattered the windows and seats around Mao and the colonel, as a lone Neaitan soldier charged its way into the train, destroying everything in its path. With a sadistic look in his eyes, Colonel Sandry fired back at the Neaitan and successfully opened a hole in the aliens’ chest, but unfortunately the good colonel took fire as well, and fell to his knees in shame. And as death began to overtake Colonel Sandry, Mao stood over him in shock. She couldn’t believe this was happening around her, but as the colonels’ blood began to pool around her feet, her survival button was pressed and she knew now was the time to start running.

As soon as Landor and his men heard all of the commotion going on at the far end of the train, they immediately began making their way through the dead bodies that blocked the aisles, for the chance of capturing any females trying to escape. There was already word on the radio that a Neaitan soldier was killed, and that a lone Japanese women was seen exiting the train, and with this new slap in Landors’ face, Landor ordered for her immediate capture, and if she wasn’t alive, there would be hell to pay.

Mao was never a fan of was running, but when there are blood thirsty aliens on her trail, she had no problem beating her feet against the pavement.
One thing she did regret was all of those times she had declined in going jogging with her husband, because now her legs felt like they were on fire, and on top of that, she was running out of breath at a rapid pace.
“How am I going to get out of this one?”, she thought to her self, as she zig zagged through the little alley ways of this tiny town. She then suddenly realized that she was lost, and because of this, she began to panic.
But not everything thing was at a loss because she still had her phone and the gun that was given to her by the man on the train. “Oh, that poor man, he was only trying to help me, but now he’s dead.”
Tears began to run down Mao’s face, has she walked around in circles, wondering what to do. She then pulled out the gun and examined its exterior.
This was the first time she had ever held a gun in her life, but she was confident that she could use it properly. “Just point and shoot. That is all I have to do. Just point and shoot. The man said it was easy. Just point and shoot.”

Mao- I should call Patrick.
(Phone ringing)
Patrick- Hello? Mao are you okay? Oh my fucking God! What is going on?
Mao- Patrick. I don’t know what to do. There are chasing me!
Oh my God. Shit (crying) What should I do? I don’t know where I am.
Please help me.
Patrick- Okay, you have to calm down and tell me where you are.
Mao- That’s the point! I don’t know! As soon as the shooting started, I just ran as fast as I could. I didn’t see the name of the station. I just ran!
Patrick- Whoa, slow down, Okay. Where are you now? What do you see around you?
Mao- Right now, I am in an alley way. I think I am behind a warehouse or something. Oh my God! I can hear them! Please tell me what to do!
Patrick- Okay, you need to find a place to hide, and if possible, try to find something that you can use as a weapon.
Mao- I have a gun.
Patrick- Where did you get a gun?
Mao- This poor man on the train gave it to me.
Patrick- Okay, whatever. What kind of gun is it?
Mao- It’s a 9mm.
Patrick- Okay, that is good. Just make sure that the safety is off, if you have to use it.
Mao- I don’t know what that means! Oh shit, I think they are getting closer.
Patrick- Look on the side of the weapon next to the trigger, there should be a little button that says safety. Do you see it?
Mao- Okay, I see it. (Sobbing)
Patrick- Now, find some place to hide.
Mao- Patrick.
Patrick- What?
Mao- They found me.
(In the distance)
Neaitan soldiers- Put your weapon down! Or you will be shot and killed!
Mao- (Crying) Patrick. There are five of them in front of me.
Patrick- I know, I can hear them. Oh, shit.
Mao- Patrick.
Patrick- (Crying) Yeah?
Mao- (Crying) I’m sorry that I didn’t listen to you. Make sure you take care of Mally. Okay? I love you.
Patrick (Crying) Okay. I love you too.
(In the distance)
Neaitan Soldiers- This is your last warning! Drop your weapon or we will fire!
Mao- (Sobbing) Patrick.
Patrick- Yeah?
Mao- As long as the safety is off, everything should be fine right?
Patrick- (Sobbing) Yeah, everything should be okay.
Neaitan Soldiers- She’s down! Secure her weapon! We need her alive!

Dashito Chapter 3

Chapter 3

The only thing Patrick could hear before the phone went dead was the sound of gun fire. He stood there with a blank look on his face in the middle of Manami’s living room. He slowly sat down and stared at the floor, as Manami and Takashi stared at him from across the room. He suddenly remembered that they were there and that he was crying, and quickly wiped the tears from his face in embarrassment. But then, broke down again in tears and attempted to leave the room before Takashi stopped him.

Takashi- What the fuck is going on? Where is Mao?
Patrick- (Pause) she’s dead. They shot her.
Takashi- Oh fuck. What should we do?
Patrick- I need to think and I am kind of freaking out right now, so please give me a couple of minutes, okay? (Pause) Well, we need to alert the town and gather as much weapons as possible for now.
Manami- Do you think they are coming here?
Takashi- What kind of weapons should I get?
Patrick- Well, I know there are no guns in this town, so our only other choice is archery for right now. Plus of course, swords, axes, anything that is sharp and can do some serious damage. I can’t believe this is happening again.
Takashi- Again?
Patrick- Never mind, just do what I tell you. Okay? (Pause) Manami, to answer your question, yes I think they are coming here. Is there some where that you can take Mally? You know some where more secluded.
Manami- Yea, I can take her to my uncles’ house in Odashi. It’s about an hour from here, but I should leave now before it gets dark. The road that takes you there through the mountain side is kind of dangerous.
Patrick- Well, I need you to leave for both you and Mally’s safety.
Manami- What do you expect is going to happen?
Patrick- A whole lot of trouble if we don’t get moving, now please get going.

As two Neaitan soldiers went through Mao’s pockets, Landor and his men arrived at the scene, and were greeted by the squad leader that had ordered Mao to be shot down. Landor stood back in amazement as he watched the Neaitan soldiers track bloody foot prints everywhere, in the result of the pool of blood that had formed around the dead body. He couldn’t believe how amateurish these soldiers were acting by not only going against his order to take the prisoner alive but by the amount of ammunition they had used on one human. But when he thought that things couldn’t be any worse, he realized that the blood wasn’t only from the human but from the dead Neaitan soldier that was laying face down in front of him. This one human had managed to kill not one but two of his soldiers in a matter of minutes. This was bad, real bad.
Landors commanders will not be pleased in what had happened today. This act of aggression could lead to an uprising amongst the locals, and this could not take place. Landor knew he had to snuff this problem out quickly, because not only his job and reputation as a great Neaitan commander was at stake, but possibly his own life as well. The Neaitan army did not take failure lightly, so this little outbreak of rebellion had to be wiped out before the days end. But as much as Landor was upset about this little matter, he couldn’t help in admiring this little Japanese woman. This weaker species had killed something so much greater than her.
Landor was at awe with this because this had been the first time any human had ever fought back. He had never witnessed this act of aggression throughout his journeys on this miserable little planet. But then, this was the first time the Neaitans had ventured into the countryside to collect specimens. These humans were different from the ones the Neaitans usually dealt with in the major metropolises through out the world. And since Landor was not only a soldier but a scientist as well, he wanted to study this species more closely. But before he could do anything regarded to science, he had to clean up the mess that lied in front of him.

Landor- What is your name soldier?
Sergeant First Class Menson- Sergeant First Class Menson sir.
Landor- I see. Well, Sergeant First Class Menson, I have a question for you.
What was the order I gave you and your squad in regarding this human?
SFCM- Your order was to take the human alive sir.
Landor- Yes that is correct sergeant. So, please tell me why this human is lying dead in front of me?
SFCM- I apologize sir, but the human had a fire arm sir, and had fatally shot down one of my men sir. There was nothing else we could have done sir.
Landor- Sergeant, are you telling me that you and your men could not control one human that must not weigh more than 110 pounds?
SFCM- I apologize sir, but like I said there was nothing we could do.
Landor- I see. Sergeant first class Menson, who is this soldier standing behind you?
SFCM- Sergeant Foni sir. He is my assistant sir.
Landor- Okay sergeant Foni, I have a question for you now.
Sergeant Foni- Yes sir. You can ask me anything sir.
Landor- That’s good to know sergeant. So, here’s the question.
Could you have handled this situation differently?
Sergeant Foni- Sir?
Landor- It’s a simple question Sergeant, but since you seem to be a little confused I will word it differently. If you had been in charge, would you have been able to not only take this human alive, but keep your men alive as well?
Sergeant Foni- Yes sir. I honestly believe there would have been a better outcome if I had been in charge sir.
Landor- That’s good to know sergeant.

And by hearing Sergeant Foni’s answer, Landor casually pulled out his side arm, and opened up the back of Sergeant first class Menson’s scull.
On a human aspect, this act of violence would be considered shocking, but this was just a normal day at the office in the Neaitan army, and as SFC Mensons’ body slumped to the ground, his replacement graciously accepted his new promotion as squad leader.

Landor- What information do you have for me sergeant?
Sergeant Foni- We had found the humans identity card and it seems she is from Dashito, which is only two hours north of here. She is also married with one female child, and her husband is not of the Japanese species. It seems he is from America sir. But we have yet to find out his identity at this time.
Landor- Hmm, interesting. And you say that this town is only two hours away, sergeant?
Sergeant Foni- Yes sir. Why, do you have something in mind sir?
Landor- Yes sergeant I do, but before I tell you, I want to ask you something.
How long have you served in the Neaitan army Sergeant Foni?
Sergeant Foni- I have proudly served in this army for the past eight years, sir.
Why do you ask?
Landor- That’s good sergeant, it seems that you’re an experienced soldier wanting to make a career for himself, would this be correct sergeant?
Sergeant Foni- Yes sir, it is my dream to become a commander in this great army sir.
Landor- Well then sergeant, I believe opportunity is shining down upon you today. I am sure you would agree with me in what had happened today was rare and unexpected. And if the information that one female human had managed to kill two Neaitan soldiers, gets to the locals here, a rebellion might ensue. And if this happens, not only will this not be good for the Neaitans involvement with this miserable planet, but our employment as well. But if, we manage to stop any inspiration in challenging this great army of ours, by making an example out of some one or something, we will not only be helping our fellow Neaitans but our careers as well. Do you understand what I am getting at sergeant?
Sergeant Foni- Yes sir, I believe I do. What did you have in mind sir?
Landor- After your men clean up this mess, I want your squad to go to this town of Dashito and flex your muscles a bit. I want you to show these people who are in charge and if any one gets in your way, cut them down. It’s as simple as that, and when you and your men return, I will make sir to report this act of loyalty to the proper officials. And this will get you closer to your dream Sergeant Foni. Do you understand everything that I said Sergeant Foni?
Sergeant Foni- Yes sir, I understand completely sir. And I would like to thank for this rare opportunity sir. You can trust me sir, I will not let you down.
Landor- I hope you don’t sergeant or you will be facing the same fate as your old squad leader. You’re dismissed.

The chaos had found him again. Patrick had actually believed that he could hide from his past, but as he sat on the bench he and Mao had shared for the passed three years, he accepted his fate. He knew who he truly was and what he truly excelled at, and this was the art of killing. He knew this was his destiny, even though for some time now he had thought he could actually change his, but he knew he had been living a lie.
But this lie had brought him a happiness that he refused to give up. A happiness that he had never realized he could ever achieve on his own. And this is what he would fight for.
Before he would only kill for the sake of his officials orders, which he had the capability of doing without the slightest feeling of emotion, as if his body was actually connected to the blade that would puncture his enemies heart. He had been trained to be a weapon that could open up the chest cavity of stranger, in some unknown foreign land, for some unknown reason, without feeling.
Don’t think, just attack and kill, it’s as simple as that, no questions asked.
That was the philosophy that was burned inside him. But this time it was different. This was personal. They took away the one person that understood him and kept him sane. The one person that had pulled him out of his hell, he had called his life. And as a tear ran down his left cheek, he made a vow to himself that no matter what, Mao’s death would not be in vain. But then he thought about his daughter Mally.
What would happen to her because of her fathers’ vengeful spirit? How long would she have to live her life looking over her shoulder, from some Neaitan looking to collect a debt? For her safety, she would have to disappear, even if this meant being separated from her father. This was a tragic decision for him to make because he had loved her dearly, but it had to be done because he knew the enemy was coming, and with out the slightest idea that they were the lambs heading straight into the lions den.
And after this foreign enemy’s officials realized who had licked the bones dry of their fallen soldiers, more would come looking for the mysterious American that resided in the small town of Dashito.

Shoji- Takashi san, we are ready when ever you need us.
Takashi- That’s good to know. Has the women and children been evacuated yet?
Shoji- We had the small children leave with the elderly, but most of the women wanted to stay and help out. So right now, we are looking at about a hundred volunteers. Has Patrick san informed you yet in what he has in mind for us to do?
Takashi- No, not yet, He has just been staring off into space for the past twenty minutes now. I figured I’d give him a couple more minutes. It’s a shame about Mao. I can’t believe she’s dead.
Shoji- Yes, it is too bad that we had lost such a great woman as Mao.
She was a very nice lady. She will be missed. But, we should start planning in what we are going to do because this town will not accept any more losses. So please, go and talk to your friend.
Takashi- Yes, you’re right. I will go and see what he has planned, and as soon as I know something, you will be the first to know.
Shoji- Thank you.

Takashi slowly made his way over to his friend while thinking about how just the day before they had been joking about this actual event. Takashi was beginning to feel a little ashamed of himself for making light of the situation and the insensitive things he had said to his friend. But then he stopped himself from feeling guilty because how could he have known that this would actually happen, and on top of that, they had always been insensitive to each other.
It wasn’t anything mean spirited, it was just how they joked with each other. But then again, no one had actually died before. Takashi was confused.
He didn’t know if he should apologize or just move on as if nothing had ever been said. This was one of the qualities he disliked about himself. He always felt guilty about everyone around him. He always thought that he wasn’t as good of a person as he ought to be. Maybe this was just apart of his Japanese upbringing or just some strange chemical imbalance inside of him, but what ever it was, he didn’t like it. And as he made his final steps to his friend, he realized that Patrick was motioning him to stop.]

Patrick- Hold up.
Takashi- What?
Right then Takashi noticed a dog sitting to the left of his friend, but then scurried off behind the apartment complex in where Patrick had been living.
Patrick- Dude, you scared it away!
Takashi- Umm, okay sorry?
Patrick- Whose dog is that?
Takashi- I think it belongs to some old lady down the street. Why?
Patrick- I was thinking about getting Mally a dog when she gets older.
Do you think she would like a dog like that?
Takashi- Umm, maybe. Are you okay?
Patrick- Why do you ask?
Takashi- Well, because not only was your wife killed today, but there is a strong possibility that there will be Neaitan soldiers visiting our town soon, and your talking about what dog you should get your kid. I am just worried about you that’s all.
Patrick- Well, I appreciate your concern Takashi. You’re a good friend.
And yes, I’m a total wreck right now, but don’t worry about the Neaitans because I have got a plan to catch them with their pants down.
Takashi- To catch them? Do you mean we are going to set a trap? How?
Patrick- Oh Takashi, look at our surroundings. We are sitting right in the middle of the trap right now. Do remember my peanut butter story?
Takashi- Yea?
Patrick- And do you remember the moral of the story?
Takashi- Oh, about thinking outside the box, right?
Patrick- Right.
Takashi- (Pause) I don’t understand.
Patrick- Don’t worry, I will explain everything to you and the crew. Now, let’s get to work. We don’t have a lot of time.

Sergeant Foni was ecstatic. Not only was he finally promoted to squad leader but the possibility of him becoming an officer was mind boggling! He had fantasized about this opportunity ever since joining the Neaitan army eight long years ago, but now his dreamed was becoming a reality, even though he had been doubted by his fellow soldiers, regarding his skills at being a leader.
And for a while, he had actually questioned his capabilities at being a top soldier, but this was all in the past because he was now sitting proudly in the lead vehicle of the convoy of soldiers heading for Dashito, locked, stocked, and ready for battle.

Sergeant Foni- Driver, how long before we reach Dashito?
Driver- We’re about an hour outside of town, sergeant? Why?
Sergeant Foni- Well, I was thinking about pulling over, so I can lay out our plan of attack, with the men.
Driver- No problem sergeant, but we might get stuck in this soft ground here, so we should wait until we get up on the pavement again. Are you okay with that sergeant?
Sergeant Foni- Yes, no problem. We can’t afford any more set backs today, can we driver?
Driver- No we can’t sergeant. (Pause) Sergeant Foni, there seems to be a human on the side of the road up ahead. Shall I run him over?
Sergeant Foni- No, leave him alone driver. He is no threat to us; he is only a simple farmer. We have bigger fish to fry in Dashito.

And as the convoy of Neaitans roared down the dirt road, the innocent looking Japanese man on the bicycle pulled out a cell phone and called the awaiting army in Dashito.
Patrick- Okay, what do you got for me?
Takashi- Well, I had managed to scrape up about a hundred people. Oh, and
you will like this, around thirty of them are from a local archery school, and another twenty or so, are local police, so we will have access to their weapons.
Patrick- Hmm, sounds good. And the rest?
Takashi- Well, the rest are local farmers and wives the wanted to stay and help.
Patrick- Good work. I just got word that they are about 40 minutes outside of town. So, we need to get everyone in position.
Takashi- All right, I ‘m on it.

The plan was simple. Sergeant Foni wanted to roll into the middle of town, as if they were going to have a normal specimen check point. And as soon as the humans lined up with their identification, as they always did with out any hassle, the Neaitans would gun them down and leave the dead bodies to be found by the neighboring communities. This would be a message to the humans that the Neaitans were the masters, and that they would strike down fatally against any opposition that stood in their way.
And as the convoy of trucks pulled into town, Sergeant Foni was gleaming with excitement. He imagined himself at the awards ceremony, accepting his new founded glory, as the audience roared with admiration. And as a commanding officer pinned a medal of bravery on Sergeant Foni’s lapel, the Neaitan driver rudely interrupted the fantasy.

Driver- Sergeant Foni, there doesn’t seem to be anybody here. Does this seem strange to you, sergeant?
Sergeant Foni- They are probably all inside doing what ever humans do at this time of day. Don’t worry driver. The center of town is just up ahead. I want you to pull over there and turn the loud speakers on. It looks like we are going to have to interrupt this towns mid day nap. Oh, these humans are such a lazy unproductive race.
Driver- Yes, I couldn’t agree with you more, Sergeant Foni.

And as the convoy came to a stop, Sergeant Foni hopped out of the passenger door with a microphone in his hand, and began to address the town of Dashito that their master as arrived and that it would behoove them to obey.

Sergeant Foni- Inhabitants of Dashito, this is Sergeant Foni of the Neaitan Army. There will be a Specimen Checkpoint beginning in twenty minutes at the center of town. Please bring your proper identification and line up behind our vehicles. This is mandatory, so for those of you that do not choose to attend, you will be arrested...

I repeat… Inhabitants of Dashito, this is Sergeant Foni of the Neaitan Army. There will be a Specimen Checkpoint beginning in twenty minutes at the center of town. Please bring your proper identification and line up behind our vehicles. This is mandatory, so for those of you that do not choose to attend, you will be arrested.

And as Sergeant Foni repeatedly addressed the town of Dashito, the squad of soldiers climbed out of their vehicles and began preparation for the check point, by setting their weapons on full auto.

Sergeant Foni waited patiently by the side of his vehicle for a response, but was only given back the sounds of rustling leaves, and birds singing in the distance. And at this time, he began to take in his surroundings and had realized that he and his squad were boxed inside the surrounding office buildings and apartment complexes that encircled them.

What should he do? No one was responding and his men were staring at him, waiting for their orders. So, Sergeant Foni deciding to give it one last shot with his microphone, and if this didn’t work, he would order his men to start kicking in doors. And as he began his last attempt on the Neaitan loud speaker that was connecting to the top of his vehicle, Patrick, Takashi, and a Japanese boy, no older than sixteen, watched from the top of a building, a thousand feet adjacent from the Neaitan soldiers.

Patrick- This guy is too much. Takashi, I think it’s time for our little friend here to earn his days pay. I want you to tell him to put an arrow through that morons head.
Takashi- No problem.

Takashi gave the order in Japanese to the teenager, whose sister had been taken by the Neaitans, in America, six months prior. And without hesitation, the boy nodded to Takashi and pulled an arrow back in his bow, and shot it in the Neaitans direction.

Sergeant Foni- People of Dashito, this is your last.....

. (Thunk!)

Dashito Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Sergeant Foni dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes, while his squad of soldiers froze in astonishment. And before the Neaitans could do anything to protect themselves, a hail of arrows began to pour down upon them. Each soldier hit the ground within a matter of seconds, and the few Neaitans that had managed to take cover between the office buildings closest to their convoy, were only hacked to death by the angry mob of people that called Dashito their home.

Takashi- Hey Patrick, I think we have a live one here!

Patrick slowly made his way through the carnage of dead Neaitan soldiers to where Takashi and a small group of Dashito rebellions stood.
And in the middle of this group of Japanese men, a lone Neaitan was sprawled on the pavement with at least six or seven arrows embedded in its chest. And as the alien soldier stared at his enemy while breathing erratically, Patrick came into view.

Patrick- Well, well, well, it looks like we have captured us a Neaitan. Good work boys, maybe our new friend here will be happy to talk to us.
Neaitan Soldier- How dare you speak to me in such a disrespectful tone, human.
Patrick- Wow, it looks like our friend here has a little bit of an attitude problem. That’s okay though, because I can fix that. (Patrick turns to Takashi) Hey Takashi, can you do me a favor and fetch me that can of gasoline we brought with us?
Takashi- Yea, no problem.
Patrick- Thank you, and if you could, find me some matches as well.
Neaitan Solder- If you are trying to scare me human, you are wasting your time. I am not afraid to die.
Patrick- Well, that’s good to know because neither am I, but there is a difference when it comes to dying, you can leave this world quick and painless, or slow and agonizing. If it were up to me, I believe quick and painless is the wiser choice.
Neaitan Solder- That’s because you are a cowardly human. (Pause) Tell me,
Why did it take your kind so long to fight back? I have been on this planet ever since the beginning and this has been the one question about your kind that has truly puzzled me.
Patrick- Well, I cannot speak for the rest of the world, but for me, the reason would be because of the loss of my wife today.
Neaitan Soldier- Your wife? Did we kill your wife?
Patrick- That’s what I said.
Neaitan Soldier- (Pause) Thank you for answering my question.
Patrick- What do you mean?
Neaitan Soldier- You humans are all the same. You only care about your personal problems, while the rest of your world dies around you. You are a selfish apathetic waste of space. And this is why we knew that we could conquer you. (Pause) Your wife. Hmm, this all makes sense now. (Pause) But, it doesn’t matter anymore because, yes, I will eventually die today and when my commanders realize that we haven’t reported in, they will send more troops and kill you all, and this little mishap will be swept under the rug as we gain more control over your pathetic little planet. (Pause) Oh and about your wife, we had managed to cut her body in two. And come to think about it, I think I still have some of her intestine on the bottom of my right boot. I just thought that you would want to know.

And from that comment, the match was lit and the Neaitans body went ablaze.
And as its skin began to crackle and pop, the disgusting order of burning flesh had managed to push the group back, as they watched their enemy twist and turn in pain on the streets pavement.
And as the last signs of life left the charred remains of the Neaitan soldier, Shoji raised his fist and let out a cry of victory which was then followed by the rest of the group, except for Patrick.

Patrick was troubled in what the Neaitan had said to him, because it was the truth. Yes, the death of Mao was a good enough reason for battle but this war should had started the day the Neaitans had seized control of planet earth. Patrick was ashamed of himself for hiding in the shadows while the rest world had been falling apart.
So he took an oath, that not only for Mao but for the rest of the world, he would be their savior or die trying. And he knew that it would be impossible to accomplish this task alone, and so with a quick glance in the sky for recognition, he turned to his new found army and asked for their undivided attention.

Patrick- Everyone, please listen up! (Pause) Okay, good, thank you.
Yes, we were victorious today with our small rag tag group of soldiers here,
And everyone should be proud of themselves. But, this is just the beginning.
What we had accomplished today will send ripples that will turn into tsunamis up the change of command of this so called Neaitan Army, and the only out come they will have for us, will be a long slow death. (Pause) So now, we are all standing at the cross roads of life with a decision to either take you and your loved ones as far away as possible from this and disappear, or, stay with me and fight. The decision is yours to make. If you choose to run, you will not be looked down upon and you would have probably made the wiser of the two choices, but if you want to stay with me I want to warn you that what you saw today was nothing. It’s going to get a lot bloodier. But, I give you my word that I will give my life for everyone one of you here and to have you fight by my side would be an honor. So, what’s it gonna be?
Shoji- Today as been a long day and we have all witnessed things that we could have never imagined seeing in our own lifetimes. As you know Patrick san, we are all simple farmers here that have raised generations of families in this area for as long as I can remember. And the reason we have all survived is because we take care of not only our own flesh and blood but our neighbors as well. This is the way of Dashito. And for us to turn our backs on you now would be like turning our backs on our very own children we had raised since birth. So, don’t worry Patrick san.
We will fight with you, and we will die with you. It would be our honor as well.
Patrick- Hmm, good to know. (Pause)I thank you. Well then, we should get started because we have about five hours before it gets dark and by that time I want us in those mountains that stand behind us. We are running out of time people, so I need everyone to clean up this place and get packed, we will be moving out in thirty minutes.
Takashi- Where are you going?
Patrick- I have a few things I have to take care of, I should be back here in about twenty minutes. You should go help your parents. See you in a few.
Takashi- Alright.
Shoji- Patrick san.
Patrick- What?
Shoji- (Smiling) You weren’t always a school teacher, were you?
Patrick- (Pause) No, no I wasn’t. (Walks off)

Landor sat alone in his command post, he had his men construct for him outside the small train station, where earlier in the day, all of this madness had begun. Landor was normally overconfident in whatever he was involved with, but for some reason he had a bad feeling growing in the bottom of his stomach about sending the squad of inexperienced soldiers to Dashito.
He should have gone with them. He knew this.
And while he sat alone questioning his actions, a grunt Neaitan soldier interrupted his thoughts.

Neaitan Soldier- Excuse me Commander Landor but I was sent over to inform you that Sergeant Fonis’ squad has not reported in sir. We had tried several times to contact them sir, but it seems their communication system is down.
What should we do sir?

Landor simply stared at the soldier and then shut his eyes. This was it, the beginning of a very long problem for him and his Neaitan Army he had created himself. Why had he been so stupid?

Neaitan Soldier- Sir?

Landor opened his eyes and glared at the young soldier, and then spoke.

Landor- I want a convoy of trucks idling in front of this tent in twenty minutes.
And inside these trucks I want three squads locked and loaded, and ready to deploy to Dashito. Is this clear soldier?

Neaitan Soldier- Yes sir.

And as the young soldier hurried off with his orders, Landor sat in his chair and thought of home. Why did he volunteer for this? He was doing fine on his own planet, where there were other assignments he could have chosen, and still been able to go home to his beloved wife.

Oh yes, he then remembered why, his duty to the Neaitan Army.
For something he loved so much, deep inside, he equally despised.

But he knew there was nothing else he could do now but to complete his mission. And the sooner he could achieve this goal, the sooner he could get off this filthy rock called planet earth.
And with that thought, he holstered his weapon and walked out side

Dashito Chapter 5

Chapter 5

When the average person of non Japanese origin thinks of Japan, thoughts of neon lights and over crowded streets come to mind. But, this was a world that Patrick and Mao had despised long before they returned to her place of birth. And this is why they had chosen the small farming town of Dashito to live out their simple lives. Their friends could not comprehend why they would choose to live so far from the larger cities, such as Tokyo and Yokohama, because they were not only giving up the conveniences of metropolitan life but the career opportunities that city life had to offer as well. But this couple had witnessed these so called career opportunities before, which meant overcrowded trains, long office hours with low pay, and the joy of watching your ass grow through out the years of service to your beloved company that didn’t give two shits about you.
So, before they had left the states, they did their research in where they would live and this is when they had decided on Dashito. Yes, they knew that they were giving up the chance of building a financial empire but this really didn’t matter to them because neither were very motivated by money to begin with. They just wanted to live a simple life in the country, with simple jobs, simple hobbies, and simple problems they could easily overcome. And life was good for a while, until the economy had turned and Mao was not only pregnant but Patrick had lost his job as well.
They had their savings to live off of but they knew after the baby came one of them would have to find work outside of their little town.

And since Patrick was becoming quite popular as the towns English teacher, Mao had decided that she would do the commute to the big city.

These memories passed through the head of Patrick as he and his new found army trudged through the darkness of Obake Mori, which meant ghost forest.
Obake Mori had been infamous for its local folk lore in this region of Japan ever since the days of the samurai long, long ago. The story was that hikers unaccustomed to this dense forest had become lost and eventually died amongst the thick underbrush, and on nights when the moon was full in the sky, you could hear the cries for help through out this vast wilderness.
The local Japanese feared this place immensely. Grown men would make up excuses while fighting back tears not to travel alone in Obake Mori, but for some reason Patrick fell in love with this place the first time he visited its mysterious essence.

He knew and understood why people feared this place, but it was something about its energy that had attracted him to return time and time again.

But he would only go alone because that was the only time they would reveal themselves to him. And when I say, they, I am talking about the figures Patrick would see weeping at the corner of his eye. They would never appear in full view for some reason or another, which Patrick could not understand.
You would only seem them for a brief second standing next to a tree or atop of a rock peering down at you, crying. And as soon as your head would turn towards them, they were gone, and the only thing you had left was the goose bumps protruding from your neck and forearms.
Patrick loved it. He loved the sense of fear that would open up his adrenaline glands. And this, he thought was the true feeling of being alive.
Unfortunately, the rest of the group didn’t share the same enjoyment of their surroundings.

Takashi- Why did we have to go this way?
Patrick- Because it’s the easiest route to get to the other side of the mountain. Why, are you scared?
Takashi- You know this place gives me the fucking creeps.
Patrick- Don’t worry little buddy. I will protect you from the scary ghosts.
Takashi- Ha Ha, very funny. Anyway, how are you holding up? Are you okay?
Patrick- Well let’s see. Today, my wife was killed, I don’t know when, if ever, I will able to see my daughter again, and oh yea, I managed to get the entire town of Dashito on the Neaitans death list. I would say I’m not doing to good.
Takashi- Don’t worry about the towns people because they chose to get involved.
Patrick- I know, but they have know idea what they are getting themselves into. I appreciate what they had done but I have a really bad feeling this is going to end badly. I just care for them, that’s all.
Takashi- Well, they care for you as well, so you might as well and get used to them being at your side. You had inspired them. And if it wasn’t for you, the Neaitans would have eventually shown up anyway, and who knows what might have happened. So, you may have actually saved their lives.
Patrick- Well, yea maybe. I don’t know man. I am too tired to think right now.
We should stop pretty soon and take a rest. And while we are at it, I need to grab about five or six men to help me out.
Takashi- What are you planning to do?
Patrick- I want to set some booby traps for our friends tomorrow.
It should only take about an hour or so, so in the meantime everyone can relax and catch their breath while I’m gone.
Takashi- I don’t think everyone is too keen on stopping in the middle of Obake Mori to take a nap. Can’t we at least find a clearing first?
Patrick- Jesus, don’t be such a pussy. Nothing is going to happen to you here. You should be more afraid of what will be coming for us tomorrow than a couple of ghosts.
Takashi- So, this place is actually haunted?
Patrick- I’m going dude. I will be back in an hour. Take care of the group.
Takashi- (Timidly) OK

Patrick and a group of Japanese men walked off into the darkness of the forest while Takashi and the rest of the towns’ people looked around nervously in fear at what ever was watching them amongst the shadows.

Rocks and dirt bounced off the sides of the Neaitan convoy that was heading for Dashito. Landor was having second thoughts at arriving too soon but they were only ten minutes outside of town, so there was no reason to turn back.
He had realized that he had panicked with his orders, and that he should have waited for more Neaitan soldiers to arrive, but here he was, sitting in the lead vehicle heading for a town that wasn’t even located on a map.
It was dark out, which meant an ambush by the humans was possible.
So, Landor turned to his driver and gave his orders.

Landor- I want you to contact the rest of the convoy and let them know that we will be pulling over. Before arriving into town, I want to send in a squad with infer red, and make sure that there isn’t anyone waiting for us on the rooftops. Do you understand what I’m getting at soldier?
Driver- Crystal clear sir.

The driver gave the order and the convoy of Neaitan soldiers came to a stop.
A group of Neaitan Soldiers were then assembled and sent off into the darkness heading toward Dashito, locked and loaded. And as the rest of the group waited on the side of the road in silence impatiently, twenty minutes later, a voice crackled from Landor’s radio.
(Radio)
Sir, we have secured the perimeter. There doesn’t seem to be any one here, sir. The entire town is abandoned. Over.

Landor- Roger that. Have you found any remains of Sergeant Foni and his squad? Over.
(Radio)
Yes sir and it’s not a pretty site Commander Landor. Over.
Landor- Copy that. We are coming in. Over.
(Radio)
Yes sir.

And as Landor’s convoy rolled into town, Patrick watched from atop of a ridge that hung over the valley. Patrick and his crew were setting up booby traps along the trails they had traveled on earlier, when one of the Japanese men spotted the convoys’ headlights in the distance.

Patrick- Huh, they decided to show up early. I guessed we really pissed them off.
Japanese man- (confused) Nani?
Patrick- Oh sorry. Shinpai shinai de kudasai. Minna san ikimashou.

Patrick and his crew headed back to where Takashi and the rest of the group nervously waited in the darkness of Obake Mori.
And when Takashi saw Patrick and his crew, he smiled in relief that his friends had made it back safe and sound.

Landor on the other hand wasn’t happy at all in what he had found lying in the center of town. And as the headlights of his vehicle illuminated the pile of dead Neaitan soldiers, Landors blood began to boil.
And as Landor stood there in rage, the leader of the squad that was sent to recon Dashito walked up and handed him a California driver’s license.

Landor- What is this soldier?
Squad Leader- We had found it lying in front of the pile of dead soldiers, sir.
Landor- Patrick Andrews? Who is this soldier?
Squad Leader- Apparently this human has residence in this town sir, and we have already located where he lives. It’s only a two minute walk from here, sir.
Landor- Soldier, have you and your men been inside yet?
Neaitan Soldier- No sir, we haven’t. Would you like us to check it out sir, and make sure that it’s safe?
Landor- Well, that’s a splendid idea. I can see that I have been giving the best to protect me. (Sarcasm)
Neaitan Soldier- Thank you sir. We will have a run through, and as soon as we know that it is all clear, I will contact you by radio, sir.
Landor- Thank you, soldier. I see a bright future for you. (Sarcasm again)
Neaitan Soldier- Thank you again, sir. This should only take a few minutes.
Alright everybody, let’s go and check it out.

Landor could see the gleam in the Neaitan soldiers’ eye, as he and his squad charged the tiny apartment. And before the soldier kicked in the door, he paused and turned back towards Commander Landor to give a thumbs up, and in return Landor while rolling his eyes felt ridiculous but obligated, gave a thumbs up back, so that the idiot would just do what he was told to do.
And with this approval from Commander Landor, the squad leader led his soldiers into battle, ready for any threat waiting for them behind the cheap wooden door.
But only half the squad could fit inside this humble abode that Patrick, Mao, and Mally once called home. This tiny apartment had only one room, well two if you wanted to count the bathroom area. And from the looks of the place, the owners of this dwelling either had to have a yard sale, or move to a bigger apartment. There was stuff everywhere, from furniture and clothes, to toys and nick knacks of every kind.
The soldiers looked at each other and shrugged, while the squad leader grabbed his radio to let Commander Landor know that there wasn’t anything to worry about, but then a strange noise from the bathroom stopped the soldiers’ action. Every soldier immediately pointed their weapons at the bathroom door, while the squad leader began shouting commands towards the strange sounds direction. But no response was given back to the Neaitan soldiers, just the same odd noise over and over again.
The squad leader finally lost his patience and kicked in the door of the bathroom, to find a child’s toy staring back at him.
Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack!

(Neaitan Soldiers radio)
Landor- What’s going on in there, soldier? Is there something wrong?
Neaitan Soldier- No sir, everything is fine, sir. We just thought that there was someone in the bathroom sir, but it was only a child’s toy, sir...
Landor- Is that what that annoying sound is? I can hear it through the radio.
Neaitan Soldier- Sorry sir, I am standing right next to it. I will try and shut it off. You can come in anytime you want sir. Everything is clear.
Landor- Thank you, soldier. You and your men did a good job today. (More sarcasm)
Neaitan soldier- Thank you, sir.

The entire squad of soldiers heard the complement over the radio and gave their fellow Neaitan a pat on the back. The squad leader was proud of this moment, but couldn’t enjoy it because there was still an annoying little duck sitting on the toilet next to him making a racket. And for his and his men’s sanity, this obnoxious little toy had to be silenced, forever. So, the squad leader reached down to pick up the toy but suddenly realized it was stuck to the seat of the toilet.
“Hmm, strange.” He thought to himself.

He put a little more effort in picking up the noisy little thing, but the toilet lid lifted up with the toy to reveal the bomb waiting to show off its chops. BOOOOM!

The force of the blast blew half of the building into rumble, sending Neaitan body parts everywhere. Landor was knocked to the other side of the street, and was knocked unconscious, while smoke billowed into the air as Neaitan soldiers rushed to the scene to help the injured.

And high above Dashito, the group of rebellions stood on the same ridge Patrick and his men had stood, and stared down at the destruction of their town. Patrick sat casually back on a fallen tree and said to the group, “Looks like they found the duck.”
And from this comment, everyone looked at their fearless leader with confused faces, and then turned to Takashi for translation, but Takashi too was stumped.

Takashi- Duck? Like a quack quack, kind of duck?
Patrick- There’s only one kind.
Takashi- Alright I’m totally confused. What are you talking about?
Patrick- Oh, I glued the duck to the toilet seat because I knew that the evil little bastard would lure them to the bomb I made.
Takashi- Um, okay. How did you make a bomb?
Patrick- You’d be surprised in what you can make with your common house hold appliances and cleaning supplies. What?
Takashi- Okay dude, now you are starting to scare me. Yesterday, I thought you were this nice guy from America, but today I find out you were some kind of crazy soldier that has killed people for a living. And from everything that happened today, well, I’m just saying you are making me a little nervous.
Patrick- Dude relax, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you the whole truth about my past, but it was for your best interests. But you were right; I am a nice guy from America, who happens to know a lot about killing people. And from everything that has happened today, who would you rather have in this mess with you? Crazy soldier that knows how to make really good explosives guy, or nice guy that plays guitar with you on Sunday afternoons?
Takashi- Your right dude, I’m sorry.
Patrick- No don’t apologize, you have a right to be angry with me because I lied to you. And for that, I’m sorry. But for right now, let’s forget about any personal shit and stay focused. And when and if this all dies down, I will buy you a beer and tell you anything you want to know about me. Deal?
Takashi- Alright you got a deal, but forget about the beer because you know that I don’t drink, just take me to MacDonald’s instead.
Patrick- No problem, you can even super size it, if you want. (Pause)
Well, as long as we have gotten that out of the way. We should all try and get a little sleep because tomorrow will be a motherfucker. Let the others know that we are stopping for a couple of hours.
Takashi- Alright man, I’m on it.
